Drs. Atze Bellaar
Atze Bellaar, MSc, (Duivendrecht, 1999) is a PhD candidate at the Department of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine at Amsterdam UMC. He holds two Master's degrees from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, one in Biomedical Sciences and one in Health Sciences. In December 2024, Atze began his PhD trajectory investigating patient subphenotypes in perioperative and critical care populations. His research applies unsupervised machine learning to large-scale clinical datasets, aiming to stratify patients by outcome (prognostic enrichment) and by differential treatment response (predictive enrichment), while uncovering the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms that may explain variation in clinical trajectories. A particular focus lies on the phenotyping of hemodynamic profiles, including coagulation characteristics assessed by viscoelastic testing and patterns of intraoperative and critical care hypotension.
